Jon has extensive experience in commercial and international litigation, including complex commercial arbitrations. Jon previously served as Co-Deputy Managing Partner of Shearman & Sterling’s International Arbitration practice.

In the area of international arbitration, Jon has acted as counsel in numerous proceedings conducted under ICC, LCIA and AAA/ICDR Rules, with a focus on business combinations and construction disputes, particularly in the chemical and the power industries. He notably represented The Dow Chemical Company in the ICC arbitration brought against a Kuwaiti State-owned company arising out of a failed petrochemicals joint venture, in which the Arbitral Tribunal awarded US $2.47 billion dollars to the firm’s client, the largest award ever rendered in a commercial arbitration.

Jon also regularly appears before national courts in proceedings related to arbitration, in particular actions to enforce or oppose enforcement of arbitral agreements and awards.

In the area of commercial and international litigation, his experience includes antitrust, securities and bank litigation, bankruptcy, lender liability and major fraud investigations, as well as class action litigation.

Jon is also a Professorial Lecturer in the Law at The George Washington University Law School, where he has been teaching International Commercial Arbitration since 2008. He has authored a number of articles and regularly appears as a speaker on arbitration and litigation issues.
